Kyler Murray is the 2018 Heisman Winner

A couple months ago after week 4 of the college football regular season I predicted the Heisman winner. I don’t want to say I told you so but I did, Kyler Murray won the award just like I said. I can’t say I was never worried about my prediction, Tua Tagovailoa of Alabama had a great year and for a huge chunk of the season was the undisputed favorite to win. Betting odds changed to Murray though in the last week of voting and he won by 296 votes. Tua became the Heisman runner-up with the most votes in NCAA history. Murray winning also made Oklahoma tie Notre Dame and Ohio State for the most Heisman winners from one school with seven winners of this prestigious award.

What I think pushed voting in Murray’s favor was he had more total touchdowns than Tua and a lot more rushing yards. When you look at the stats you think how was it close but if you watched college football you’d know how amazing Tua was. Two of his four picks came in the SEC championship game versus Georgia, the last game of the season. He also got hurt in that game not allowing him to improve his performance. If he had a great game he might’ve won but Murray was unstoppable at the end of the year and narrowed the gap and so did the second runner-up Dwayne Haskins who had his best games in the last few weeks of the season.

Murray and Tua will get to continue their battle on the football field in the college football playoffs when Alabama plays Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl to decide which team adavances to the NCAA Division 1 Football Championship.
