Why Gilmore should have been MVP

Super Bowl LIII was a boring game for many viewers but many players on both sides still had great performances. The player who took home the title of Super Bowl MVP was Julian Edelman the wide receiver of the New England Patriots. He’s deserving but the real MVP was number one corner-back Stephon Gilmore of the New England Patriots.

Many were deserving on the Patriots secondary, but Gilmore was so impactful. Gilmore sealed the game with an interception, had 5 solo tackles, 1 forced fumble and led both teams in 3 pass breakups. It was a dominant performance and he was shut down. Edelman was great he had 141 yards on 10 receptions and on each of the Patriots scoring drives he was a huge reason why they got into enemy territory, but he didn’t score a touchdown. The Patriots offense was held to 13 points, which isn’t as bad as being held to 3 obviously but it’s still extremely low.

Gilmore killed two drives with turnovers and made plays on several 3rd downs. He was spectacular and in a game where defense was king and not many points were scored a punter or defender should have been named MVP.
