On March 24, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski retired and even though it was no shock, it was and is still very sad. Gronkowski has had a great career he has 5 pro bowls, 4 first team All-Pro nods and 3 Super Bowl titles. He quickly became one of the best tight-ends in the league when he had over 1300 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in his second season in the league. He only played 9 seasons and was plagued my injury leading to the early retirement.
Now that the legendary Patriot tight-end many considered one of the best to ever play the position has retired where does this lead the Patriots? The Patriots recently released tight end Dwayne Allen and now that Gronk has retired they don’t have many options at the position. Lucky for them this draft class is stacked a t the tight end position. With the 32nd pick in the NFL draft in the end of April they can fill this need, or they could trade up and enhance their chances to get a tight end. Noah Fant and T.J. Hockenson are the consensus top 2 at the position and either one could be great additions, but I think Irv Smith Jr. from Alabama would be the best fit and they most likely wouldn’t have to trade up to get him.
