On Monday Morning April 22 former Jaguars running back and former 2015 2nd round pick TJ Yeldon was signed to a two-year contract with the Buffalo Bills as reported by Kevin Patra an Around the NFL writer. He’s only been in the league four years or seasons so he’s still quite young at 25 years young. The Bills add him to a running back corps that includes Frank Gore the long time veteran, journeyman and future Hall of Famer, and LeSean McCoy another proven veteran.
Gore and McCoy are great running backs but Gore is 35 and McCoy 30 and 29-30 is usually when running backs cool down and get close to retirement. Gore has been a freak though who refuses to age and even though he’s definitely regressed he’s still a reliable player. McCoy just finished another season hampered by injury and this season might be his last and it’s likely he gets hurt again and doesn’t play all 16 games. Adding a young solid player like Yeldon to complement and compete with these two only makes sense.
Yeldon is a solid runner who can also pass block well and receive well. The Bills are limited at receiver and need all the receiving help they can get for the young second year quarterback Josh Allen. Also a good running game can relieve the pressure on the passing game and can set a great tempo. Yeldon should be an impact player from day one even if he doesn’t start which he most likely won’t.
